“The Deity of Manila has a lot of problems, one of which is what to problematize, especially in a country where there are more school supplies than books in its so-called national bookstore, not mentioning that two-thirds of these books are foreign publications, and the remaining one third is divided into a shelf for this bitter, pessimistic spinster writer, another shelf for this street comedian who later turned into a toilet-frustrated dramatist and another shelf for 25-peso romance novel writers who are obsessed with tales about beautiful maids who, upon meeting handsome, rich guys, later turn out to be heiresses of rich families pala.”
